Join us this coming May 2020, to experience the heart of Javanese culture at the capital of Indonesia’s Special Region of Yogyakarta. This ancient city is the home of an active Merapi Volcano and is also an amalgamation of Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic influences, that have shaped its art and architecture. This retreat is for those who enjoy the daily practice of yoga, and meditation, enjoying good food and company, and of course, exploring historical and spiritual locations.

5 Days 4 Nights

Day 1:

On arrival at Adisutjipto airport, a 30-45 minute ride takes us to the Hyatt Regency for check in. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the hotel complex which is located within a golf course. You will be surrounded by greenery and included with that, a stunning view of Merapi, an infinity swimming pool and a scenic running track around the hotel property. Cycling through the paddy fields can be arranged on request. We gather by 4pm for Yoga, followed by mediation and then we will have dinner together.

Day 2 : Borobudur Sun Rise

Wake up early by 3am as we take a 45mins -1 hour drive to Borobudur to catch the golden sun rise at the backdrop of Mt Merapi.

Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The temple demonstrates the influences of Gupta art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian. The monument is a shrine to the Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage. The pilgrim journey begins at the base of the monument and follows a path around the monument, ascending to the top through three levels symbolic of Buddhist cosmology: Kāmadhātu (the world of desire), Rupadhatu (the world of forms) and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness).

After having some lite refreshments at Manohara café within Borobudur complex, we head to the pristine and wild Timang Beach. 1-1.5 hour drive and another 20 minutes’ drive on a 4 wheel drive.

Here will enjoy fresh seafood, foodies take note, before healing back to the hotel for yoga and meditation before dinner.

Day 3 Candi Ceto & Candi Sukuh

Morning sunrise outdoor yoga practise followed by breakfast. Then we head to the Western slope of the Mount Lawu which is 2-3 hours of drive.

Candi Ceto is a fifteenth-century Javanese-Hindu temple that is located at an elevation of1495 m above sea level on the border between Central and East Java province. Nestled within the Tea plantation and terrace cultivations, this misty marvel provides the perfect space to take one into a meditative state.

The founder of Candi Sukuh thought that the slope of Mount Lawu was a sacred place for worshiping the ancestors and nature spirits and for observance of the fertility cults. The monument was built around 1437. The main structure of Sukuh temple is like no other ancient edifice; it is a truncated pyramid reminiscent of a Maya monument and surrounded by monoliths and meticulously carved life-sized figures.

By noon we enjoy the local Javanese food on top of the mountain slopes overlooking the plantations and then head to the hotel for a relaxing meditation session followed by dinner.

Day 4 Prambanan Temple Complex + Ramayana Ballet

Start the day with the outdoor sunrise yoga, followed by breakfast in the hotel and then head to The Prambanan temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The largest Hindu temple of ancient Java, and the first building was completed in the mid-9th century and dedicated to the Trimūrti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Transformer (Shiva).

After a city tour, shopping and lunch we head back to the hotel for a relaxing session of meditation followed by a display of Javanese art at its best at Hyatt Regency’s Ramayana Ballet & Buffet.

Day 5: Home Sweet Home

After an early breakfast we can head to the airport to catch the flight back to Singapore. Arrive Singapore by noon allowing you time to unwind.
